FRESNO GRAND OPERA ANNOUNCES CAST FOR DEAD MAN WALKING
Cast includes six singers making their Company debuts
Fresno, California – March 31, 2016
Fresno Grand Opera is excited to announce a star-studded cast for the main stage performance of Dead Man Walking on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 7:30 pm at the Saroyan Theater in Fresno.
Sister Helen Prejean: Laura Krumm, mezzo-soprano*
Joseph DeRocher: Christopher Magiera, baritone*
Mrs. DeRocher: Suzanna Guzman, mezzo-soprano*
Sister Rose: Jeanine de Bique, soprano*
Warden George Benton: John Ames, bass-baritone*
Father Grenville: James Callon, tenor
Kitty Hart: Liisa Davila, soprano
Owen Hart: Zeffin Quinn Hollis, baritone
Jade Boucher: Nicole Jacques, mezzo-soprano
Howard Boucher: Robert Norman, tenor

About the Cast
Laura Krumm (Sister Helen Prejean)
A 2013 graduate of the prestigious Adler Fellowship at San Francisco Opera, Laura has joined the artist rosters of several major companies in the United States, including San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago and Dallas Opera. Personally recommended by composer Jake Heggie, she makes her role debut as Sister Helen Prejean in this production.
Christopher Magiera (Joseph DeRocher)
Hailing from New York, Christopher has extensive European credits, including the English National Opera, Dresden Semperoper, Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, Italy, and the Bayerische Staatsoper in Germany. Domestically he has performed leading roles with The Metropolitan Opera in New York, Santa Fe Opera, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Opera Colorado and Vancouver Opera.
Suzanna Guzman (Mrs. DeRocher)
Based in Los Angeles, Suzanna has appeared on the stages of many of America’s leading opera companies during the past two decades, including The Metropolitan Opera, Los Angeles Opera (39 productions), San Diego Opera (7 productions), Washington National Opera (six productions), Houston Grand Opera (five productions), and The Dallas Opera (five productions). European credits include Opera Montpellier, Opera Geneva, Opera de Nice and the Edinburgh Festival.
Jeanine de Bique (Sister Rose)
Born in Trinidad and Tobago, Jeanine has extensive European credits, including performances with the Vienna State Opera, Basel Opera in Switzerland, Danish Royal Opera, the Munich Philharmonic and L’Opéra et Orchestre de Montpellier, France. Domestically she has performed with the New York Philharmonic, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Opera, St. Petersburg Opera in Florida, and Central City Opera in Denver.
John Ames (Warden George Benton)
Based in northern California, John Ames originated the role of Warden George Benton for the world premiere production of Dead Man Walking at San Francisco Opera. A graduate of the esteemed Adler Fellowship, John has sung nearly thirty roles with San Francisco Opera in his career. He has also made appearances with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, and has performed extensively in Asia.
James Callon (Father Grenville)
James returns to the Company after his successful performance of the role of Mitch in A Streetcar Named Desire. A Southern California native, James has performed extensively with Los Angeles Opera, Tulsa Opera, and Opera San Jose, and appears regularly with opera companies throughout Northern California.
Liisa Davila (Kitty Hart)
Based in Modesto, Liisa regularly appears with opera companies throughout Northern California, including leading roles with Townsend Opera and West Bay Opera. Liisa also serves as the Chorus Master for the Townsend Opera Chorus.
Zeffin Quinn Hollis (Owen Hart)
Zeffin returns to the company after an incredible performance in the title role of Sweeney Todd. Recent work includes the title role of Falstaff with Pacific Opera Project and Olivier in Therese Raquin with Chicago Opera Theatre.
Nicole Jacques (Jade Boucher)
Based in Fresno, Nicole is a graduate of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. A leading voice for many years in the Fresno Grand Opera Chorus, Nicole makes her well-deserved role debut in this production of Dead Man Walking.
Robert Norman (Howard Boucher)
Robert returns to the company stage after his recent performance as Toby in Sweeney Todd. He has performed nationally with L.A. Opera, Opera San José, Opera Santa Barbara, Opera Las Vegas, Long Beach Opera, and Union Avenue Opera. Past performances include Goro in Madama Butterfly, Dr. Caius in Falstaff, Gherardo in Gianni Schicchi, and as Remendado in Carmen.
Andrew Pardini (Prison Guard, Motorcyle Cop)
A graduate of the University of Southern California and University of Maryland, Andrew has performed with Opera Philadelphia, Dayton Opera, Ash Lawn Opera Festival, and as a resident artist with Utah Festival Opera.
