Fresno Grand Opera is excited to announce the cast for the main stage performance of Sweeney Todd on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 7:30 pm at the Saroyan Theater in Fresno.
Sweeney Todd: Zeffin Quinn Hollis, baritone
Mrs. Lovett: Margaret Gawrysiak, mezzo-soprano
Anthony Hope: David Castillo, baritone
Johanna: Camille Jasensky, soprano
Beggar Woman: Molly Mahoney, mezzo-soprano
Judge Turpin: Phillip Skinner, bass-baritone
Beadle Bamford: Jon Lee Keenan, tenor
Pirelli: Timur Bekbosunov, tenor
Tobias Ragg: Robert Norman, tenor
Zeffin Quinn Hollis (Sweeney Todd)
Zeffin returns to the company after an incredible performance as Scarpia in Tosca. Recent work includes the title role of Falstaff with Pacific Opera Project and Olivier in Therese Raquin with Chicago Opera Theatre.
Margaret Gawrysiak (Mrs. Lovett)
Margaret recently performed Baba the Turk and Mother Goose in The Rake’s Progress and La Mère d’Antonia in Les Contes d’Hoffmann with Wolf Trap Opera. Future engagements include Seattle Opera for Vera Boronel in The Consul, and Mistress Hibbons in the world premiere of Lori Laitman’s The Scarlet Letter with Opera Colorado.
David Castillo (Anthony Hope)
David’s performances for the 2015-2016 season include Atzuko in the Mozart/Guerrero world premiere of Figaro (90210) with the Los Angeles Opera, his European debut in Winterreise with Francois Chouchan at the Mairie du Troisieme Arrondissement in Paris, and his return to Le Salon de Musiques at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. He also is a member of VOX, a vocal quartet recently featured on America’s Got Talent.
Camille Jasensky (Johanna)
A graduate of the University of Colorado, Lamont School of Music, Camille’s recent performance include Papagena in Die Zauberflote for Opera Colorado. Other performances include Rapunzel in Into the Woods and Zerlina in Don Giovanni, in addition to soloist in Rossini’s Petite Messe Solonnelle and Faure’s Requiem.
Molly Mahoney (Beggar Woman)
Molly Mahoney returns to the company stage after her recent performance in Opera Remix: Music & Verse. Other recent performances include Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, Gounod’s Faust, and La Tragedie de Carmen. Past performances include Die Zauberflote with West Bay Opera, Hydrogen Jukebox with West Edge Opera and Zerlina in Don Giovanni with Pocket Opera.
Phillip Skinner (Judge Turpin)
Phillip’s work with San Francisco Opera began in 1985 in 54 productions including the Water Gnome in Rusalka, Mephistopheles in Faust, and Colline in La Boheme. Recent engagements include the world premiere of Mark Adamo’s The Gospel of Mary Magdalene in San Francisco, Iago in Verdi’s Otello with Festival Opera, and a debut with the Metropolitan as the Marquis de la Force in Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmelites.
Jon Lee Keenan (Beadle Bamford)
A Vocal Arts graduate and post graduate from University of Southern California, Jon’s past performances include the west coast premiere of Magnus Lindberg’s Graffiti with the Los Angeles Philharmonic; in addition to Handel’s Messiah, and Haydn’s Maria Theresa Mass for the Los Angeles Master Chorale. A recent performance included Evangelist in Bach’s St. Matthew Passion.
Timur Bekbosunov (Pirelli)
Kazakh-American tenor Timur Bekbosunov has made solo appearances with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Opera Boston, Bang on a Can All-Stars, MUPA Budapest, Sarasota Opera, Santa Cecilia Academy, Long Beach Opera, The Industry LA, among many others. His band Timur and the Dime Museum was recently featured in Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Next Wave Festival 2015 in a production of COLLAPSE, produced by Beth Morrison Projects.
Robert Norman (Tobias Ragg)
Robert returns to the company stage after his recent performance as Steve Hubbell in A Streetcar Named Desire. He has performed nationally with L.A. Opera, Opera San José, Opera Santa Barbara, Opera Las Vegas, Long Beach Opera, and Union Avenue Opera. Past performances include Goro in Madama Butterfly, Dr. Caius in Falstaff, Gherardo in Gianni Schicchi, and as Remendado in Carmen.
